League Edition


Skopet started the new season on the wrong foot having been beaten by the youthful, Tohari Pajian-led team, Total Football. The score was 2-1 with Boyboyan netting the consolation goal.

Despite the lost, the mood was definitely fantastic and things seemed more 'pro' with everyone donning the skopet jersey(no more guest players with own shirts) and having a prodigy manager on the bench. And almost everyone came in time for the team warm-up. Let me point out that with the exception of Mar who is from work, the rest shouldnt miss it. We'll always start half an hour before kickoff, so pls note.

In all honesty the opponents weren't the best we've had. But fitness-wise we were pwned. Well they took their chances and thus deserved the 3 points. Our defence worked their socks off and held the attacks well but our offense was err.. blunt.

A few players pointed out during the after-action-review that our compact defense formation was taking a toll on our wingers who are unfit enough to fulfil that role. I understand the concerns but to push it to them would be unfair. Centremids and Forwards and everyone else.. (isnt that everyone).. shouldnt we be defending and attacking together? I saw Jiaming overlapping all the way to the touchline and prem playing him the ball, which is good, in the first half. hmm perhaps that explains the cramp? hah.
Anyway if all of us are more composed, run more, hold the ball better, find space better yadda yadda yadda.. i think we can even win a game with a 6-3-1 formation haha.

All im saying is we cant blame the formation, guys. You can blame the referee, the pokok, the irritatingly noisy opponent's coach, or wateva haha. at the end of the day as soccer players we should be able to adapt and play in any way required and of course fitness has to be there. So this thing that you're concerned with.. we just need to get used to it. Take this as a learning point. Our goal. To be resolute in defence and discover our attacking verve. 8 more games to go. No worries, we WILL get it right. haha. oh and thank god for rolling subs.

WE WILL AND CAN GET IT RIGHT. Because we have the mettle to do it. On your own, do what you can about your fitness. And have faith in yourself and in your mates.

I will never be satisifed with a loss, we need to go into our 2nd game with a winning mentality and forget about the loss. We MUST win. Period.

In fairness, the defence wasn't to blame and was decently superb throughout the game -- and I feel its our attacking game that needs to be improved. Our accuracy, timing, and those little 1-2 passes were left wanting.

Here's a tip, go out and buy a soccer ball. Stand 2-3m in front of a wall and keep passing to yourselves via the wall. Gradually increase distance and strength. Now this a wall pass, and this is how we overcome/pull away from our opponent's defenders. Practice this passing technique till you've figured the manner in playing the ball with the correct amount of weight. IMHO, we need to improve on this, instead of only running with the ball.

thx rudy n mar. This is wat i like abt our team. we have grown to acknowledge our shortcomings, accept criticism, dicuss openly and do something abt it. in other words we hv matured.

anyone else would like to share their 2 cents?

I would like to apologise for my dismal performance on that fateful day. I was indeed touching the ball and running (yes, running) for the first time in 14 days after marriage.Sorely in need of match fitness, I would like to proudly proclaim that I attended fitness session the following day at dragonscage and regained my MOJO. I am training on my own and hopefully can string the defence to attack via Prem this Sat. Go Skopet!
